  • Broken import of cameras via .vrscene(3dsmax 25, Vantage 2.8)

This now doesn't work, just downgraded to 2.7.1 and it's fine again. Previously I could import an animated camera that has been exported via export .vrscene from 3dsmax 25 (best way for me), now, not.

    Thanks,

    Jason

We are also having the same issue. I can get some cameras to import into 2.8. However others don't. If they fail to import, i can sometimes fix this by reloading the scene. However this is not garunteed to work.

    Thanks

      Hi guys,

Can you send us some sample scenes and/or a recording for us to reproduce?

      Beast regards,

It's not live link methodology, it's sending as a standalone, trust me, this is the best way for some types of setups.

            It's simple to replicate:
            1. Set Vantage to 2.8.0.
            2. In 3dsmax 2025 create a box, animated camera path of 100 frames towards the box and a sun/sky system
            3. Now send everything except the animated camera and target as a static scene to Vantage
            4. Now back in 3dsmax 2025 select the camera and target and export through Vray menu .vrscene exporter
            5. .vrscene exporter dialogue box, tick ensure export selection only, tick export animation and frame range Scene Animation range
            6. Save file as .vrscene
            7. Go back to vantage and import this camera (.vrscene)
            8. Nothing happens
Now revert back to Vantage 2.7.1 and repeat the process and you now are able to import stage 7 successfully into Vantage, this then allows you to grab the camera and create a new animated camera under the Animation Editor.

            Hope that helps,

            Jason

              Hi Jason,

I assume you are exporting the animated camera while looking through it, right.? Can you try to export the selected camera and target while looking from either perspective or orthographic view and import that vrscene? On importing that vrscene in the Camera outliner a new camera should be created which you can then select in the Scene track as Active camera. Please let me know if it works for you.

              Best regards,
              Alexander

                Hi,

I'm not really used to vantage, but I'm not able either to export an animated camera from Maya to Vantage.
The only thing that I could make work is via Live Link and starting the render job from Maya
I would like to make it work...

                Cheers
