I have been using Vantage since beta and I don't think my Vantage viewport has ever updated when I update something in MAX. I always have to turn Vantage on/off each time. Is there something I need to do to get this to work?

The live link has to be running for updates to happen, indicated by a blue border around the viewport in Vantage (and an icon in the status bar at the bottom).

In this case, we will need more information. Like a recording of the issue and a max scene to reproduce it here.
Most types of updates work and there are rarely any complaints from users.
Some more sophisticated ones don't and it's usually an issue with either 3dsMax or V-Ray for 3dsMax not doing the update.
