  • Vray for Sketchup - flowting license

We are have a group of users of Sketchup and Vray (sitting across different offices), and we consider to upgrade to a new version of Vray (some uses dongles), but I'm not sure how the licenses work.

Are the licenses flowting so we can share them if we install the license server and add a connection to the server via VPN?
I have got an answer from a local distributor that says it's possible, but render times will increase a lot - is that true?

An other thing - does Chaos Group consider to make vray licenses more flexible - like Enscape (witch we now use mostly instead of vray) - here you buy one license and can use this one license for both Sketchup, Revit and Rhino. Witch gives us a lot of flexibility.

    Kind regards

    Hi Jorgensen,

The licenses are floating, yes. You can use a VPN between the offices. It will not slow the rendering if it's used just for the licenses. You can get slower rendering if you send render jobs over the VPN from one office to another, but that depends on the transfer speed you have between the offices.
Another option is to migrate your licenses from the dongles to a single CG account and use our online licensing. In that scenario - you can install a license server instance in each office and use the same account to log in. The licenses will be obtained over the internet from our backend license server and the license usage between the offices will be synched there - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...icenses+Online

You should note, though, that we support only V-Ray 3 and later version on Online Licensing. For V-Ray 2 licenses - you can upgrade them to V-Ray 3 or you should keep the dongle as a licensing method.

We have discussed the possibility for a single license to exist, but currently there isn't such license. You can send an e-mail to our sales team at sales@chaosgroup.com for details about sales plans and future development.
