  • Why change the VrayforC4D license scheme?

I've used VrayforC4D from its earliest beta. That's...quite a few years. While my Max-based colleagues were complaining online about issues with getting/using their dongles for vray, I enjoyed the simple, effective licensing method my Cinema4D-based vray used. It was tied to my installed C4D serial number(s). I would have a key file, it would work. I am new to this forum and noting all the posts about 'license not working', what if my ISP goes down, or Chaos' server being down (just was) etc. I am locked out right now while waiting for an issue with my transferred license to be resolved. Fortunately I do not have a project to deliver right now. It doesn't have to be like this.

What was wrong with the way licensing was done for Cinema4D to require it be changed to a less reliable method? Perhaps was to stop multiple use at once by copying the Cinema installs, but Cinema itself has a system to prevent multiple instances running with the same serial, so vray piggy-backs on that method.

We took over V-Ray for Cinema 4D development from our partners form LaubLab and that's why V-Ray for Cinema 4D uses the same licensing all Chaos Group products do. You can use the "Borrow" option if you want to protect yourself against network outages - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...or+Offline+Use

If you have a licensing issue you can message us - https://www.chaosgroup.com/support/contact
Also - the license we provide is an additional one, so you keep the 3.6 one too.
