  • Two instances of max open, but one license?

How is it that I can open a second instance of 3ds max and it can't find the licensing server but the first instance work just fine?? I've been used to working with 2 and sometimes 3 instances open at a time with no issues until today.

    Thanks.

You lost connection to the license server - max stays open for 2 hours after dropping it, but new copies opened still check in even if one is open and they won't pull an extra.
We get our licenses from a server in NYC, and we are in Miami. Happens every now and again.

That's what I had initially thought. But a check of the licensing server getstatus showed that everything was good. I re-booted and that seems to have fixed the issue. I hadn't run into that before.

What's the license server's version? Try the latest one if you use an older version, I think there was a bug that was causing license skipping in 5.1.0 /5.1.1 when dongles are used.

I'm on 5.2.1 It just did it again, but this time with only one instance of Max 2019.3 running. Restarting Max fixed was the solution.
