  • Firewall and Port Number?

I have a corporate client who's recently upgraded to Next, but has not activated "online Licensing" yet. When attempting to do so, there's an error message about being unavailable. They are asking me what port to open up and if it needs to be incoming, outgoing, or both? I noticed too, that the proxy settings are blank as well. They are on License Server 4.3.1

    Thanks.

    Hi David,

They need to upgrade the license server to the latest version, 4.3.1 is too old.
Chaos Group License Server needs to connect to https://ols.chaosgroup.com and https://accounts.chaosgroup.com in order to work with Chaos Group Online Licensing. The site at https://accounts.chaosgroup.com uses a trusted certificate and it should pass through the proxy without any issues. The site is accessed via a web browser when a user needs to activate the license server by authenticating with a chaosgroup.com username and password. The site at https://ols.chaosgroup.com is not supposed to be accessed by users in a web browser. The Chaos Group License Server needs direct access to this site as it hosts our Online licensing services back-end. We use a self-signed certificate to encrypt the connection from the license server to our back-end. As this is not a web site intended to be accessed by users please treat it as a service connection and allow it directly in the firewall. Alternatively it could be allowed in the proxy, but it needs to have proxy certificate bypassed which is against the best practices when it comes to web site access. However, as the address is only used for service connection it should not pose any threat to the security.

For port numbers - we use TCP 30304 in the internal network (between the license server computer and the client machines) and https on the default port between the license server machine and our backend.
