  • License server down? 3.20pm AEST?

Is there a way for Chaos to ensure the license server doesn't go down weekly? The prices get jacked up but the accessibility gets consistently worse - why?

Its really bloody irritating when it intermittently goes down and you are on a roll working to a deadline. Internet is working fine its just my vray license not connecting....

license server site says its online but I cant get it working, have restarted and every other trick i know

Please put some time towards ensuring this doesnt happen so often

I notice my redshift license isnt down? Fucken pissed off I do not want to have to rebuild the scene to work with redshift...
Can someone please advise from the support team - If there are going to be outages can you advise via email so we can work around them? I know Sunday in Australia might not be a work time for you but it is for me

also tried these steps to get it working offline but no go as it seems to have different options to license server 5.5.0?

*This* is why the license server needs to be setup correctly where it automatically checks the license daily and always provides a minimum of one week work of uninterrupted access in the event of any sort of network/server outage.

To think that a paying customer may lose work due to the design of the licensing scheme is scary. You realize people just pirate your software if they want to? It's not hard to patch out license checks. Making licensing difficult or unreliable only serves to punish honest users who want to give Chaos money for their hard work.

My phoenix license is working which is on the same address?
Second image is my vray which shows as available...?

at my wits end here - in the middle of a massive pitch, for a car TVC and this is happening my god what are the chances
never had an issue with XFORCE cracks doing this back in the old days (old old old) before I could afford my own license for home

                  Hey,

That 169.254.x.x IP address looks like one of those link local addresses like when windows can't get a proper address from the DHCP server. Are you sure your networking is setup right to get a proper IP from the DHCP server? Perhaps reboot whatever your DHCP server is (router?) Basically a machine should not have address in the 160.254.0.0 subnet. This usually indicates some network config issue, like a DHCP server not working right.

Can you get to the internet (like, e.g. google.com-- even though google is the spyware devil and you should use DuckDuckGo.com ) ??

You might also try configuring your IP manually if you know what subnet you are using, e.g. 192.168.0.0 or similar. You could pick an IP like 192.168.0.10 for instance and set that manually depending on your subnet mask of course. (Sorry, I geek out of routing and stuff.)

                  Hope this helps.

See above as well (first), but you obviously have some access to the internet (phone?)

Normally IPs like 169.254.x.x cannot be routed. In other word your ISP throws them away and every ISP between you and Chaos throws them away. So you need to figure out the issue on your local network. Normally rebooting the DHCP server (router?) will solve this, unless you have a custom DHCP server or some other corporate setup. Like we have a custom DHCP server where we can restart the DHCP process in that case, but usually this means reboot your router.

                    Anyway, see this:

                    https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-ip-ad...-with-169-254/

                    Hope this helps. Good luck!

yeah i know 169 isnt meant to work - but its been that way on my home setup for ages now, something to do with the NAS units I have connected. I have rebooted a few times and reset the router as well. Ill have a look again though, im terrible with network stuff
internet is working as ususal and its weird cos my phx license also works and thats pointing at the same thing.

it was all working fine for ages until 3.20 this afternoon

when I borrow it doensnt work either

I wish I could check and see if the Chaos servers are working, but we borrowed all our licenses a couples days ago (as soon as I learned of the serious design flaw in Chaos' licensing where a network outages means you are screwed) and we are rendering. So I can't risk losing our licenses.

I would post this is the 3ds Max general forum and see if anyone else is having a issue right now.

You might also try looking at the log file from your license server. Not sure what it will tell you (barely looked at one once).

If you are well and truly screwed you could contact me via the email I sent and I could try to render your job for you here. But as you know that would be a big pain and require sharing your assets, etc. But I do feel for you. I will be up another 45 mins or so.

                        Good luck.

OK. I get it. Hope you get things squared.

Hate to see a VRay user in need.
