  • Migrate from perpetual to vray collection

    Hi,
Is there any kind of discount or path to migrate a perpetual license to a rental one? Would this be a good decision?

I believe there is a path - they're following the ways of Autodesk..... (hand us back your purchased car and rent one from us instead.....)

        My advice ?

        Don't do it.

hi jezUK, thanks, but it's getting way to expensive to upgrade. I mean, the prices of render nodes! my god!!. I really love vray, I own 2 workstation licences, 15 renders node licenes, and was going to buy 2 more workstation licenses, but with the high cost to upgrade perpetual licenses, I'm starting to think on alternatives to vray.

            Hi Leo,

            I hear you !

Others are expressing the same on other posts about this issue. Surely Chaos MUST do something about it ?

How about other renderers ? I'm looking right now. I don't use Blender but Octane has a free version for Blender.

Anyway, I own just two computers and am not upgrading to V-5. I am going to wait to see what Chaos do from all the feedback they're getting.

I would love to move to blender, but I have to learn the software first and finally not to depend on autodesk BS!. I'm thinking on corona but I don't like that they only use CPU. and third alternative would be Fstorm.

What I *may* do myself is just stick with Next and then go to V6 in 1.5 years time..... If Chaos expect me to pay double (for the missed V5) and their stance hasn't changed by then, then I will just keep V5 and possibly get the V-Ray Collection.

But I *feel* they will do something. I'm seeing too much protesting from long standing, loyal customers for them to do nothing.

(agree with you regarding Corona, Fstorm is subscription only. Subscription only = stop paying and you can't open your files..... not good in my opinion, hence why I will keep Next).

I was also suprised how much upgrading would cost. Sure V5 has nice features that make you life easier. But still. The funny thing is that arnold can be cheaper is some situations. If you need maya / max for 3 artists get the slightly more expensive Media & entertainment collection and you got also 5 arnold nodes in each. So you get 15 arnold nodes almost for "free" in this kind of situation. And you can be sure that maya bifrost rendering works...I think Chaos group should considering the farm pricing - especially the loyal customers who haven't skipped a version.

ah so we 3.6 owners are disloyal...thanks for that.

Still on 3.6 - various long running projects kind of made us stick - would love to go to 5 but the "Render node" costs are a complete joke.

Perpetual or subs - either way you are going to get shafted if you have a decent render farm.

Same here. V-Ray 5 is great, using the beta got me hooked, but the render node licenses are so high that we simply refrained from upgrading. There are loads of nodes on our farm, they are used daily, but why they are so expensive is beyond me.
