  • V-Ray for Rhino and for Blender (or Max) in the same PC

    Hi there,

I work with Rhino 5 and V-Ray 3.6, and to export models in fbx files with unwrap materials maps it seems that the best workflow is to use Blender or Max.
Blender, being free software and have a free V-Ray plugin to work with, seems the best option, but raises some questions:

1 - Is there any problem or incompatibility to have installed the V-Ray license for Rhino and the free V-Ray plugin for Blender on the same computer?

2 - If it is ok to have both, can I render in Blender with the same license of V-Ray for Rhino (if not, I think there is no problem because the use of Blender is just to import the final Rhino models with V-Ray materials and export them in fbx files with UV material maps).

3 - Evan that I think that is not an option to me having 3ds Max, the same question raises too - Can the same computer have V-Ray license for Rhino and for Max at the same time and work without problems?

    Thanks.
    Best regards

    Hello Jose,
You can install and work with different versions of V-Ray on one machine wthout a problem. It only depends of the license you have, make sure you choose the corresponding build according to your license.
Yes, you can render with V-Ray 3.x Standalone build in Blender, which will use your V-Ray 3.0 Render Node license used for rendering.
If you have V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for 3ds Max license, you can use them both on your machine and work with them at the same time.
