I'm on the verge of buying V-Ray Solo, but I have some concerns. As it’s a fixed license, I use Maya on two or more machines, and while I could opt for the Premium license, I’m curious about flexibility. What happens if I want to switch the fixed license to another computer? Is the license locked to a single machine indefinitely? That would be quite restrictive, and it’s a serious dealbreaker for me.
As a freelancer, I need to be able to work on one machine and render on a separate server. With V-Ray Solo (which seems aimed at freelancers), I wouldn’t be able to look-dev on my main workstation and then let it render overnight on another. This limitation is disappointing, and I’d love to know what the team thinks. Are there any plans to make switching machines easier for Solo license users?
[edit] just came across this link and it mentions that i would have to create a support ticket everytime i switch from my lookdev (workstation) to final rendering (render node). is a floating licence really worth the extra 200 bucks? i seriously ask myself, who is a solo user? a hobbyist? i cant imagine a freelancer go "ok my machine needs to render 1 week, i guess im on vacation now". my maya licence doesnt work on 2 machines. i can install and open them at the same time but i get a message that i can pause it on the one machine. thats easy and simple. why isnt it possible to just use 1 licence wherever i want and have the freedome and flexibility i need as a freelancer? i cant imagine that this would be a hard thing to implement, unless you want everyone to get the more expensive package of course. i dont need phoenix and all other things. i just need to be able to render and take this licence to wherever i have to but only being able to open it on 1 computer. thats it.
i really hope the team consideres a different option as well for people like me.
