  • Forcing license terminate while away from office?

I wonder if this is possible. I'm out of office and I need to use VRay GUI with my laptop. I looked at license server and noticed the GUI license is reserved at office workstation. Since no one is using it there, I wonder if I can terminate the license there do I can use it while I'm away?

Just close your software on the office PC and this will release the license as far as I know.

      Thanks,

I left Max on for tyFlow simulation. There was nothing VRay related going on. So I could render my scenes, but I used some VRay features blindly and Also, I was not able to edit some rendering settings. So I thought there's a way to free up the license when I'm not using that workstation.

Is it necessary to shut down Max in order to use VRay in another workstation?

I still have this issue. I'm out of town and got a request from a client to create a few renderings. I can render, but I can't open VRray rendering settings UI. There's no-one at the office, but the license seems to be there. How can I free up the license?

Is it possible that somebody borrowed the license for offline use? You can check in the license server under V-Ray for 3ds Max, License Type: Interface. Check if it's available, in use, or offline.

Sorry to say, there's no way to release licenses remotely. I suggest you call somebody to manually shut down the PC in question. Maybe it's a good idea to install remote access software on it for situations like these.

                  Thanks,

I have one man business so there is no one there. Also the workstations at the office, they are rendering an animation queue so the workstation in question cannot be shut down.

The reason I would need the VRay UI is that I need to change rendering mode to orthogonal. Normally I do both: the perspective camera renderings as well as orthogonal camera renderings (without perspective). Maybe the workaround would be to create an empty scene with cameras and lights for both situation and then use The XRef scenes to include the geometry into the renderings.

I visited yesterday shortly at the office and noticed that in one instance, the main render dialog was left open. It was not in V-Ray settings just the main dialog. I closed it and now the VRay UI license was again available in remote session.
