  • V-Ray Next - upgrade question - Max

    Hi guys

With version 3.0, we received a 1 x GUI (Workstation) and 1 X Render Node license as a single license package upgrade from version 2.0.
It's unclear if that complete package remains for a single seat upgrade. So if we upgrade a single workstation license ($580 according to this site), do we keep that single render node "marriage" or it's now completely split with Next? and we need to get a workstation (580) AND render node for additional cost
    As per this page:
    https://www.chaosgroup.com/vray/3ds-...ade-calculator

    $789

Either it IS in fact split now, or the calculator doesn't mention you still get 1 render node with 1 workstation license.

    Please clarify
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

My understanding is, you will pay for the render node.

A single render node license is part of a normal workstation license. How else are you going to render? That's my understanding. Additional rendernode licenses (if you want to render on 2 pc's at the same time) are separate.

I have pretty much the same question. Currently we can render on 4 PCs - 2 are with workstation licenses and the other 2 are using render node licenses (non GUI). If we only upgrade the 2 workstation licenses to Vray Next, will we have the ability to render on all 4 PCs with Vray Next or we need to buy additional render node licenses along with the 2 upgraded GUI licenses?

Honestly guys. If you answer simple questions like this here on the forum, you will reach a much larger audience quicker. And you have copy paste your answer maybe 5 times on different threads from maybe 5 different users asking the same question.
But OK, if you want to spend days copying pasting same in hundreds of email, who are us mere peasants to stop you...

This is one of the reasons I don't come here as often anymore. The new forum sucks, plus - NO ANSWERS. Just regular users chatting among themselves

              Kind Regards,

My understanding is, you get to render on your PC. Anything else you pay. So, I added a BOXX Render Pro, which will be a slave and it'll need a node license. My understanding.

Does V-ray Next I upgraded for 3ds max is the same V-ray for unreal?

Well I guess that answers that question. I missed that little hover button when I initially looked at the calculator

Yes, I saw the same thing today and I was going to report back. I swear I was told I needed a second license when I get my BOXX Pro working. I guess I would if I rendered it through MAX, but not through DR.

No I think in that case you DO need a 2nd render license.

With a single workstation license you get 1 render node. That render node you can choose to render with on your workstation or on your slave. But if you want to render both on your workstation and your slave at the same time, you need a 2nd render node license
                        Kind Regards,

Hi everyone - for all questions related to prices, upgrades etc. - please message us at sales@chaosgroup.com

glorybound - The number of render node licenses you need depends on the number of machines you use for rendering. E.g. - if you send the render to another machine and do not use the local one for rendering - you'd need only 1 Render node license (you can use the one from the Workstation package).
If you use 2 machines (I think the RenderBox has 2 separate machines in it) - you'd need a second render node license for the second computer.

V-Ray for Unreal and V-Ray for 3ds Max use different interface (GUI) licenses. Aside from that V-Ray for Unreal is still in Beta and the V-Ray Next Beta render node licenses are not compatible with the commercial V-Ray Next Render node licenses.

I personally think the pricing has gone nuts.

The original Licence of a Vray licence + 5 render nodes should be honoured, for those who have been using it for years, and who helped you develop it..............I may add.

                              Now it €1350+vat............

So the plugin is the same price as the modeller............really?
