online licensing question

Hi,

I wanna upgrade to VRay 4 in a month or so and have a question about online licensing. I have two computers and wanna render over night so my main computer will be turned off and only render node will render over night. But in day I wanna render with my main computer and only sometimes use my render nodes. With online licensing, is this possible, right?

Hello,

Yes, it will be possible to activate two V-Ray Online License Servers - one on your workstation and one on the render node.
As the licenses are floating you will be able to use them on either of the two computers.

Please note that in case you have only 1x V-Ray Next Render node license you will only be able to render with one of the computers at a time.

I am a little bit confused now. Of course I wanna render on both at day. And render only on second (my main computer turn off) at night. I can do that only when I buy another render node? I have one vray license and one render node and I can use both computers of course. Question is can I render only on second computer with main turned off? Now I have dongle in my main computer so I think I cant do that. I hope I can with online licensing.

Hello,

Please note that the V-Ray Next for 3ds Max workstation license includes 1x V-Ray Next Render node in it. If you have an additional V-Ray Next Render node besides the workstation license (seems like you do) then you will be able to render on both machines at the same time.

You can go ahead and transfer your license from the dongle to the Online licensing system: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...icenses+Online

After the licenses are move please make sure that you have the latest version of the license server installed and activated on both computers: https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server

Also please set the address of the V-Ray primary license server to 127.0.0.1 on both computers as shown here:

Afterwards please restart the V-Ray Spanwer/Render server and 3ds Max to apply the new changes.

Sorry, main question was if I can render on first computer only or on second computer only when the other one is off. I understand I can do that.

I can confirm that switching to Online licensing this will allow you to render on either of the computers even if one of them is offline. Please follow the instructions in the previous post in order to achieve that.
