  • Vray Next / Could not obtain a License (-200)

Just installed the 4.02.04 version (upgrade from 3.40.03 ADV). Then installed the 5.1.1. license server file. Start 3ds Max (2017) and have "Could not obtain a License (-200)" message. I notice VRLService is not running. I manually try to start it and it will not start with a message of "service doesn't respond in a timely fashion". OS = Win7

    Thoughts?

Update: I've completely uninstalled VRay from the windows uninstaller. Deleted the program files\common files\chaosgroup folder and re-installed vray_adv_40204_max2017_x64.exe. Now the VRLService is running and I can connect to localhost 30304. However, I now have a "Could not obtain a license (-197)" message in 3ds Max. I'll dig through the forum here and online to try and track that one down.

I can see you've got your licenses on a hardware USB dongle - make sure you have the dongle drivers installed - https://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-...uKey_for_Users

Plug in your dongle - it should be steady green in the license server menu. check if you can see your licenses listed. It's possible that the dongle's not been upgraded if you recently purchased an upgrade or new licenses - you can send us a .wbc at support@chaosgroup.com to check if the dongle is up to date - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...atinga.wbcFile

        Hey Ivan,

Problem was I received the update notification a day before the dongle .rtu update file. I thought it would let me update to the online licensing, that's why I proceeded with the install yesterday. However, I wasn't able to get that working. Once I flashed the new .rtu file this morning, and restarted the dongle, that cleared the -197 license code and it's working now.
