  • Occasional missing license errors - "Could not obtain a license (-98)"

    Ever since installing Vray Next I've been getting occasional ( -98 ) errors on my workstation. Maybe 3-4 times a week. The dongle is plugged all the way into the USB port, I check every time it happens. The only way to render again is to reboot the PC after which everything is fine for a day or two and then it eventually happens again. What could be causing this and how do I prevent it?

    Hello,

    Can you please send us an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com with the following information:
    1. Logs from the license server - they can be obtained from http://localhost:30304/logs/download when logged on the machine that has the dongle.
    2. Screenshots from the "Contents" and "Install" tab of the WibuKey utility ("Control Panel" -> "WibuKey")
    3. The exact version of your operating system - if possible please let us know what is the latest update pack that you have installed.

        In addition to Mihail's posts, i would like to add one additional note: We always recommend to use the the latest versions of V-Ray license server (5.1.2 at the moment) and the latest wibu key drivers (6.40 at the moment). When you keep this software up to date, it prevents you from bugs and issues related to the dongle, software incompatibility and OS updates. Sometimes the USB port itself is not good and you can try a different USB port (If you are using a PC use the usb ports on the back).
        Also we encourage our clients to migarate their dongle based license and use the online based licensing instead of dongle based, because of a number of reasons, but most convinient is that you may use your license everywhere with only sign-in with your username, without the need of usb hardware dongles and installing drivers. The only thing you need to have is a stable internet connection.
