  • Could not obtain a license (-200)

Since 3/4 weeks, secondary workstations could not obtain license randomly, while the license could be reached via a browser ([licenserver ip]:30304) from the workstation, and are marked as available

Error code is -200 but IIRC it was sometimes another number

Restart of the workstation, or the license server computer often solves the problem but it's not a long term solution and it's often not possible.

License are dongle based, license server is latest version (5.1.2)

What's the OS on the license server computer? Also - what's the dongle drivers version? It can be seen in Control Panel->WibuKey->"About" tab in Windows or in the output of "wku" command in Linux or OSX.

      Thanks for the answer

      License server computer : Windows 7 SP1
      Dongle driver : 6.4

Meanwhile, we've edited the server config file (cleaned all the older IP of previous configs, etc.) and restarted both computers and it works again.

If you have any advice (other than switching to Online, not suitable for us right now) to improve the stability/ reliability of the server, you're welcome

Sounds like a license server (not computer) restart should work also. I'm wondering if the dongle has started to malfunction, it seems to be an old one. You can try a USB 2 port if you're using a USB 3 currently.
You can also give us a call when the issue occurs (don't restart in that case) to have a look at it on a remote session.

          Ok, thanks !

I'll post here if the problem occurs.

I don't think the dongle was malfunctionning since it was working in MAX on the computer acting as license server.

Better to call us on the number here - https://www.chaosgroup.com/support/contact
We're checking the forum occasionally, but not that often to react fast enough every time, and it's convenient for more common issues rather than specific like this one.

I have a question , I have two computers , one PC and one iMac, if both have vray installed and also have the license server , will they compete in some way ? this is slowly driving me crazy , everything seems to be as it should be except I can't render anything at the moment and I have a pressing deadline

                kind regards

If you have only 1 license - you can use it on 1 machine at a time. If the license is engaged on the PC it won't be available on the MAC and vice versa. More to that - if the license is on a dongle - a license server instance, installed on the computer with the dongle will provide the license to all machines.
                  That means:

                  1. If the dongle is only plugged into 1 of the computers - the license settings on the other one should point towards the IP address of the machine with the dongle -
                  2. Both firewalls - the Windows and the MAC one - should allow TCP port 30304 for both incoming and outgoing communications. You can turn off/on the firewalls to test if there isn't an issue there.
                  3. If you switch the dongle between the machines - the one with the donlge will have the license, provided that the license settings point towards "localhost"
                  4. If you have 1 iterface and several render node licenses - it's best to add "localhost" as a primary license server and the IP of the other machine as a secondary, so the licensing will work for both machines regardless of where the dongle is plugged in.
OR - if Online licensing works for you (steady green when you log in) - just transfer the license to your Online account. - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...icenses+Online

If you use Online licensing - just install the license server on each machine and point the license setting towards "localhost"

If you describe your setup and how you want to use V-Ray in your workflow maybe I can be more specific.
