  • VRay NEXT trial license issues

Thought I'd give Max 2019 and VRay NEXT a trial for comparison to our current setup (3dsmax2018 and VRay 3.6) to see if it is worthwhile our upgrade. As I quietly expected, I can't get the license working. Why must it always be so darn difficult? Unfortunately, I am busy so I don't have time to troubleshoot so I thought I'd post this to see if support can point me in the right direction for next time I have a few spare minutes.

    Current setup:
    Max 2016 and VRay 3.6.
4x licenses of VRay 3.6 and 19x render nodes
The licenses are on a dongle connected to our server.
    All works fine.

    Attempted setup:
Max 2019 and VRay Next trial
I have installed Max 2019 and then VRay NEXT. Launching the VRay NEXT renderer from Max2019 suggests I don't have a license. I have rebooted but no change. I have disabled my Windows Firewall but njo change. This is what I see when I launch the license server management window:-

Please explain what to do next. This is why we don't like to upgrade very often. Never straightforward.
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

    What does http://localhost:30304/#/bundle/max page show?

If you have a dongle on the server your license settings most probably point towards it.
You can add "localhost" (without the quotes) as an alternate license server, so the NEXT license will be obtained from the locally installed license server - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings
Restart 3dsMax after changing the license settings.

Thanks Ivan - that seems to have worked.

Sorry, to jump in, but it looks like Tricky's problem is resolved. I too am trying to get the demo working (max 2018 and VrayNEXT), but on both our workstations. Working flawlessly on one machine, but on mine, I get the (-200) problem. I've added localhost as an alternative, but no luck. Does the dongle only allow one trial licience?

If you search for a license on your local machine (the localhost) you need to have a license server instance installed there - https://download.chaosgroup.com/down...dalone-512-adv
Otherwise - the license settings should point towards the machine with the license server installed (and the machine should be turned on).

Regarding the trial licenses - you receive 1 workstation license (1 GUI+ 1 Render node), meaning that it can be used on 1 machine at a time. If more people in your office want to test - they can apply with a different e-mail for a trial or, if you want to manage all licenses centrally, you can write us at sales@chaosgroup.com for more test licenses.

OK, thanks, I was worried it was a problem with the machine/licence. It's not necessary for me to get more trial licences, I've already seen what it can do (bloody amazing!) and we have stressed it a fair bit on the other machine. I think I'm going to press to big button to upgrade, Thanks again.
