  • Q: Can you have a machine use render license and UI license?

For a client I'm investigating a way to use a workstation as a render node in the farm. The workstation only rarely needs an UI license but when not used it should be rendering.
With the vray dongle you can serve the UI license to whomever uses vray first. This situation is fine and works well in this case, but now one of those machines needs to be rendering too.
So with vray next, can a machine use both a render license and a UI license (when needed)?

It's not very clear to me from the documentation, if anyone has good info or URL's to pages where it's clearly explained I'd love to know!

    Thanks,
    -Johan

    Hello Johan,

A "Workstation" in terms of our licensing is a license package that contains an Interface and a render node license. See https://www.chaosgroup.com/support/f...in-the-license
If you have a Workstation license package you can use the "Render node" license included in it to render. If you need an additional license only for rendering - you can get an additional render node license, which is cheaper than a Workstation license package.
