  • No internet = no license

    So, as the title says, we've experienced some down time with our internet yesterday, 4 hours to be exactly, so we didn't have any access to our licenses. Sure we could do some other work but it's not an ideal situation especially with deadlines. It wasn't our fault either, as a lot of people experienced this in Belgium yesterday, apparently something on the side of the providers. Is there a solution yet to prevent this happening: temporarily no internet, license servers down etc. You guys can solve the most complex mathematical problems, I'm sure you can solve this one Thanks.

    Hi Ashley,

    You can borrow the licenses on your license server to prevent downtime during internet outages - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...or+Offline+Use

      Yeah that doesn't work here for some reason. We have a computer that handles our licenses and backburner and stuff. But if we try to borrow from our workstation, we get this:
      {"error":{"kind":3,"message":"Borrowing licenses for offline use is possible only from local machine","guid":"some number here that I don't know is safe to post publicly"}}

        You have to access the interface via the "localhost" address, e.g. http://localhost:30304 or http://127.0.0.1:30304, instead of the external IP address of the network interface.
        Also - please mind that the licenses should be free (not in use) while you borrow them, otherwise the engaged ones won't be borrowed.

          Thank you for the reply.
          Do I access the localhost address on the workstation or the license computer? Because with both addresses here I get a 'refused connection' on my workstation.

            You should access it on the computer that has the license server installed. If it's a Windows one - you can use RDP to connect. For Linux - You can create an ssh tunnel to forward the localhost to your machine.

              So I just did that, and I borrowed a license, but how do I assign that borrowed license to my computer?

                You don't need to. The license is still obtainable from the license server (similar to having it on a dongle). If you use a central license server computer to obtain licenses from you can borrow all licenses on it. That way they'll be saved in a file locally on the license server computer and in case of an internet outage will still be available.

                  So best if I borrow all of them so everybody and our farm is safe for an outtage? In that case I can only borrow them if no one is using their Vray?

                  Edit: Apparently yes. Thank you for your help Ivan.
