  • Help again please - at a loss what's broken this time!!

    Hi Guys.

Having a Windows issue I suspect - here's what happened.
I turned on my 'render node' PC and I could not access the network / internet. I suspect a Windows 'update' broke things... - so I had to 'reset network settings' and assign a new IP address to get it running on the network again.

But - on my Main PC (with the Vray USB Dongle plugged in) - where I run Max and Vray - I now could now not use the render node for distributed rendering - it would not see it?
I tried launching Max on the render node to see if it could grab the licence from my main PC - no joy there - so something is broken?

I then tried putting the USB dongle in the render node and all worked fine - running Max on that PC and setting my Main PC to look to the nodes new IP for the licence also worked.

So i'm up and running now by having the dongle in the render node PC and just resetting the IP address's for the licence. BUT if I want the dongle in my Main PC - the node can't see it??

Please point me in the right direction - i'm hopeless with windows!!

Could you please confirm if the vrayspwner is running on the render slave machine and is it registered as a service or it is started manually?
Also please send us a screenshot of the V-Ray client license settings, so we can see if the ip address of the machine, where dongle resides is input and correct.
If you want you can write us at support@chaosgroup.com and share screenshots and more personal information, regarding your dongle SN and more details of the ip addreses and issues you have.
    Thank you.

      Hi Stefan.
Thanks for the reply. I have narrowed it down to a firewall issue. If I disable the firewall on my Main PC (the one with the dongle) - the 2nd PC can then see and use my licence etc.
I am though at a loss as to why this has stopped working? My IP address's are correct and the port on all my settings for Vray is 30304. What do I need to add to the firewall list / settings to allow my render node PC to make it all work again please?

EDIT -- I have checked on the main PC and the licence server was not enabled for either the public or private network - so I have turned it on. Now I can use PC no 2 and it can pull my licence from the main PC (PC1) and work as a standalone system. BUT - when I use PC 1 and then choose PC 2 as a render node - I just get the error in green that says 'server 192.168.1.2:30304' is not reponding?

Closer - but no cigar yet!

      Any ideas please?

EDIT - tried removing the render node from the distributed list and then adding it again - it changed the port (it was 30304) and it came back in as 20204? It now WORKS!!!!
Very confused - what should the port number be on the main PC (the one with the dongle) and what should it be on the slave to get the licence from therein PC?

      Thanks!

Make sure to add V-Ray license server and port 30304 in both machines, also the vrayspwner application on port 20204 on both machines- as an excetpion in the firewall and antivirus.
I didn't get an answer if the vrayspwner is started manually ot registered as a service on the render slave machine-PC2? When you start vrayspawner manually, are you able to see 3ds Max in the taskbar blinking? Are you able to see the process called 3dsmax.exe - running and not restarting?
Are you able to make telnet connection to the ip address and port 20204 from the macin PC1 to PC2 (Run command prompt on PC1 and try the following command: telnet ip_address_PC2 20204)? Do you have Bachburner installed on PC2 and it is the same versions as PC1?
