    I've just installed vray_adv_37001_max2018_x64 i can create Vray light etc but when i try to render i keep getting the error message- Could not obtain a license (-96). The Chaos License Server could not be reached. When i go to the license server on Fire fox i get the error message- can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:30304.

    I'm using a Dongle so does anyone know why Max isn't recognizing it (no problems rendering Vray with Maya)?

    Can you write us at support@chaosgroup.com about that? Please include the dongle serial number (printed on the dongle) as well as a screenshot from http://localhost:30304 page from your browser.

      Maybe i should have mentioned that i've been through all the Kaspersky Firewall and Application control settings to make sure there are no connection issues. I've also tried with VPN on and off but still the same issues.

          Do i have to install the dongle driver again when adding Vray for Max? It was installed OK for Maya.

            First make sure if your OS recognized the dongle and it is available and activated on the web page "localhost:30304", if it is not recognized or not available and activated, please check the dongle drivers and Device manager under the USB devices under your WIndows OS. If the dongle is recognized and you are able to see your license on the web page address "localhost:30304", please make sure that you have enough free licenses and also we need to double check if the correct installation build is installed on your machine. We need to check your dongle SN in our database in order to verify if you have a licenses and what type is it.               WIBU-BOX/RU USB controller working fine with driver version 6.30.1393.500. I'm still getting the error message when i try to go to- web page "localhost:30304" When i go to the license server on Fire fox i get the error message- can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:30304.

              Is this a problem with Chaos servers or on my machine?

                I'm trying to use Max 20018 I've uninstalled Vray Max 3.7 and installed Vray Max 3.6 but i still have the same licensing problems- Activation Failed! Please activate manually.. When i use Vray Max 3.5 the license works no problem (Max 2017).

                  If your license is on a dongle the online activation should not matter.
                  Can you try to:

                  1. Uninstall Chaos license server from Control Panel.
                  2. Delete "C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup\ssl" folder
                  3. Reinstall the license server - https://download.chaosgroup.com/down...dalone-523-adv
                  4. Navigate in your browser to http://localhost:30304
                  5. Check if you can see the dongle in green and the licenses listed.

                    Brilliant! I think that deleting the folder after the uninstall has made it work. Very strange, never had this problem before but this could be because i don't usually use Max. I did notice when looking at localhost:30304 that i only seem to have a Maya license showing. I assumed because i could download the Vray Max software from the Chaos website my Maya 3.6 perpetual license also covered this, is this correct? It's been a couple of years since i purchased so i can't really remember what the deal was, sorry if i'm just getting this confused.

                      The Vray 3.6 Max software is half working but says that it hasn't found the license and the Render Tab doesn't give any options for GI or Settings.

                        Currently, our download section allows you to download all available V-Ray products. You require V-Ray for 3ds Max license, in order to use V-Ray for 3ds Max. If have not purchased V-Ray for 3ds Max, you can apply for a trial licenses from the following page:

                        Our trials are associated with the Online licensing system, after you apply for the trial - please go to the Chaos License server page (http://localhost:30304) and enable Online licensing with the username that started the trial.

                              If you have the dongle driver installed then you can try to use different USB port for the dongle. You can also restart the license server, what is the version you have installed?
