  • License errors today

    I'm getting -197 error today.
    I've uninstalled and reinstalled the license sever to no avail, noting to remove certain files as stated in another post.
    Nothing working so far.
    Earlier I tried to borrow a license but that process was halted as there was no prompt to upload the file I downloaded, as per the instructions.

    Am I to understand there is nobody available over any weekend to deal with license problems?
    I do much work during these days so....sad face...
    I have tried everything I can think of and it certainly looks as if something strange is occurring on my license pages, so the soonest someone is available please ping me, regardless of any time difference please.

        Yeah it's something on my side but I have zero idea what. It was fine yesterday/day before.
        tbh the web pages for licensing aren't making much sense to me and I can find no way to understand exactly where the problem is, as the info seems to contradict
        what is occurring.

        EDIT: What fun. 2 days of trying everything including a fresh install and now I am told I have no licenses available.
        There surely must be a better and simpler way of being able to control one's paid-for stuff when, quite understandably, there is no weekend support available.

          -197 error generally indicates that there is no license for the product in question. It can have different causes though, e.g. if you try to use V-Ray for Maya with a V-Ray for 3dsMax license, or expired license, or a license server not functioning correctly.
          Check if you can see your license on http://localhost:30304 page on the computer with Chaos license server software installed.

            It's odder than that.
            I only use this one pc but the page 'was' showing this pc which you see in the grab, plus another, though named slightly differently for some reason, plus another named machine, which was still this same pc but obviously renamed when I installed Windows 10 a couple of months ago.

            Everything worked fine up until Friday.
            In desperately trying everything I have now deactivated all but the original one which says I have a borrowed license, which does now not work.
            I've attached grabs of all the pages. Tell me if I still need to send these to support also.
            I have an incoming job so would appreciate a speedy resolution if at all possible please.
            The only thing I can think of which has caused this is that I downloaded/installed the Unreal Studio beta and then tried to see if I could install what appeared to be a trial of Vray for Unreal. Apparently it is not a trial and so possibly that screwed stuff up?
            Anyway, now the error has gone back to what it was, a -200 error, after I reinstalled Vray/license server and uninstalled the Unreal part.

                What was your solution? I have done everything you did. I even tried an older version of the VRL server. I even have a dongle. Neither that or on line licencing works.

                  Hi rmaytee,

                  Please uninstall the Chaos Group license server and remove any remaining files from the following folder:

                  C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup

                  Afterwards, download and install the latest Chaos license server from the following page:

                  https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server
                  Activate your dongle licensing on the Chaos License server page and use V-Ray.

                  If this suggestion does not fix your problem, please contact us directly at support@chaosgroup.com with a screenshot from your License server page.
