  • Perpetual license is no perpetual

Hello Chaosgroup, you are in fact a total chaos... The perpetual license I bought with you guys is no perpetual at all... it's no longer working!... why do I have to pay for an upgrade when my license was working... ?!?! I bought my license in 2016, and just now when I updrage my 3DS Max to 2021 it says my license can't be obtained.?!!?

Why are you telling lies with a "perpetual" license?!

Well, it is perpetual with the software you were using when you bought it. Still can use it right?
    Best Regards

I'm using a perpetual version (V-Ray Next) and it works fine with Max 2021.
if you are on 3.x I can imagine that for the developers to keep updating an old version to work with every future release can be hard,
they supported Max 2020 even though Next is the current version.
probably 3.7 for 2021 is coming too?! vlado
I would send an email to the support and address the issue with them, they are quite supportive and active.

Run the software company. In 10 years somebody will knock at your door and say that he cannot use your software with new operating system. In reply he will hear that the program was created for previous operating system and he can use it with forever as he has got perpetual licence(AD policy might differ). You have never said it will be forever updated to run on every system that will appear in future.
          Best Regards

            Dear camuz

Please note that the license you have purchased back in 2016 is for V-Ray 3.x. This license is still working and it will work forever with V-Ray 3.x.

From what I can see you have upgraded to 3dsMax 2021 which is not supported by V-Ray 3.x and you have probably installed V-Ray Next and got a licensing error. This is completely normal cause V-Ray 3.x and V-Ray Next requires different licenses just as 3ds Max 2020 and 3ds Max 2021.

If you would like to work with 3ds Max 2021 you need to upgrade also to V-Ray Next which has support for it otherwise, you may use V-Ray 3.x which supports 3ds Max 2013 - 2020 (8 versions of the software).

The fact that Autodesk switches the license each year doesn't make V-Ray license non-perpetual - the license will still work without any issues with supported versions of 3ds Max. In addition, Chaos Group also offers a monthly and annual license just as Autodesk - so if you would like to have support for any future version of 3ds Max this might be a better option for you.

If you need any additional information or assistance don't hesitate to contact us via email or phone.
