  • Can't Borrow Universal VRay

I was experimenting with the license borrowing feature. First off I don't see Universal VRay even listed. There is "Universal" I assume that is VRay. However, if I try to borrow Universal on the next page in my "cart" of licenses to borrow it shows the VRay App SDK instead! I tried adding the VRayAppSDK itself thinking the two might have been swapped, but alas, I only get the SDK either way.

Please have a look at this straight away. Note this is for the VRay Collection...

Also, what the hell is "Evergreen" ???

    Thanks.

    Hello,

V-Ray Universal is the whole Workstation package. This means that you when you try to borrow the Universal package, you will see 1 App SDK, 1 Render Node and 1 Interface license. All you need to do is type 1 next to the Universal box (see the attached screenshot for reference), click on Preview then borrow. You should be able to borrow 1 App SDK, 1 Interface and 1 Render node license that way. If you continue to experience issues and have urgent V-Ray problems, please contact us directly at support@chaosgroup.com

      Nikolay,

Thanks for the quick reply. When I choose Universal and add 1 the next page shows this (below).

I don't see any mention of an Interactive VRay or Phoenix or Universal or anythiing. I just get one render node and one App SDK.

Is that correct? Is "VRay App SDK" actually VRay Interactive, plus the SDK? To me that reads as a license for a Software Development Kit, not for an interactive license of VRay Universal.

Trying to figure out if this is correct because I would like to borrow the license. However, I am worried doing so might break all of our licenses if this is a bug.

Just want to make sure the screenshot I posted is correct.

        Thanks again.

Any update on this? (Above) Is it a bug, or should I borrow "VRAY APP SDK" in order to borrow a VRay Universal License?

What happens if I am rendering and I want to borrow the licenses I am currently rendering with, or I have interactive open and I want to borrow that. When I say I want to borrow it's purely because I want the license to work if the internet goes down or Chaos servers go down. I want the local to the business license server to borrow the licenses, but we are already rendering. Is that possible?

Did you guys change something on your end? Now I see the VRay Universal license listed as well. (See above, other posts)

EDIT: I see what was going on. All VRay Universal licenses were in use at the time. So the "shopping cart" of licenses to check out was culled of the VRay Universal listing, rather than showing it with 0 licenses.

So I am able to set everything to offline. Now, how can I automatically renew this every day for the 12 day period so that I will never be without licenses in the event of an internet failure or Chaos server failure, DDOS, etc. ??

You cannot borrow license for offline use if the license is being used at the moment. The licenses need to be "Available" in order to be borrowed.
Once borrowed your licenses will be automatically reborrowed, unless you manually release the licenses.

This should be an option at installation, like "Would you like to initiate a borrowing of licenses, in order to automatically be able to work offline?"

Yes, definitely. This avoids all the issues and support questions. Should be a big yellow box that explains the options clearly right there. Make it impossible to just click-thru. Perhaps a delay where the buttons don’t work for 5s to make the user take notice, since most people just click, click, click when installing things.

This makes a huge part of the offline option pointless it seems to me. I need to borrow a license offline since Vray has again chewed up my license all day after a Maya crash and I cant do any work. Ive been sat here for over 6hrs waiting for Vray to release my license, and Ive reinstalled Vray, but nothing works. Borrowing a license seems essential, even when one says " in use" for these situations. We need a backup option for when it locks the license incorrectly.
