  • License refresh after rebooting license server

    Hi,
i restarted render server with dongle. Is there any way to refresh licenses on workstation WITHOUT closing 3ds max? The scene opens for 20+ minutes...
    Many thanks!

If you restarted the license server and V-Ray is showing license error message in 3ds Max, you can try to load another render and again load V-Ray in Render Setup window(F10). If this is not helping and there is a license error, you will need to close and re-open 3ds Max.
Is there a reason to restart the license server with dongle or this was one-time action only? Thank you.

      Hi Stefan,
many thanks for reply. Well we have this problem often, every time we restart the computer with license server we have to close and re-open scenes on all affected workstations. Huge scenes are opening for 15-30 minutes so it is really annoying to close 3ds max after that and load the scene again. Maybe a simple refresh button that checks the license server again will be helpfull for everyone...

Please have in mind that V-Ray license server needs 1-2 minutes if it is installed locally after you restart your workstation in order to start the service and you can check if the service is started on the web address "127.0.01:30304" and if the license is available, this means that you can start 3ds Max and load the heavy scene.
Most probably your workstations are really fast and 3ds Max loads faster than the V-Ray license service (VRLService). In this case, you will need to wait for 1-2 minutes after the restart of the machine and then start 3ds Max with V-Ray. At this point, V-Ray could not load in 3ds Max if V-ray license is not available during the start of 3ds Max.
If this is not the case, and your licenses are on a centralized server machine and they reside on a dongle it will best if you send us an e-mail at support@chaosgroup.com, so we can further investigate your issue and schedule a remote session if needed in order to check exactly what is the issue.
We will need more information regarding the dongle SN, V-Ray license server version, and the exact V-Ray and 3ds Max versions. Sometimes the old version of the V-Ray license server could cause such troubles. That is why we always recommend installing the latest version of the V-Ray license server.

If your licenses are still on a dongle, we recommend you to migrate the license to online, so that you are always up to date and the license be available on the machines all of the time. The need for a centralized server will be gone because you will be able to activate the license locally on every workstation. Feel free to send us an e-mail to our support e-mail, so we can help you.

              Stefan,
yeah but that brings another problem in. Our internet provider has occasional outages which leaves you without working licenses for 15minutes - 4 hours. We can use special internet via mobile for this pc, but it's kind of annoying too...

I understand. You can borrow your online-based license for offline usage so that you can work with your license even without the internet.
More information regarding the borrow for offline usage license, you can find below:
