  • V-ray for revit unable to obtain license error: (-197)

    i recently purchased and installed v-ray for revit, but i am unable to enable revit. every time i try to i get error: (-197), i have the most up to date license server app installed, i even uninstalled and reinstalled it. when i check the online licensing everything is green and available. i guess enscape and v-ray use two completely different types of licensing systems, because enscape for revit works just fine. i tried contacting customer service but have not received a response yet, so im hoping some one has had this problem before and cant help me. thanks in advance.

    Hello,

    The error (-197) typically means "There are no available licenses of this type on the Chaos License Server." Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
    1. First, ensure that you have the correct license for V-Ray for Revit. As mentioned in one of the support tickets, sometimes users accidentally purchase a license for a different product (like Chaos Vantage) instead of V-Ray.
    2. If you're sure you have the correct license, try the following steps:

      a. Uninstall the current Chaos license server from Control Panel > Programs and features.

      b. Delete the VRLService folder if it exists in %appdata% > Chaos.

      c. Delete the ssl folder if it exists in C:\Program files\Common files\Chaosgroup.

      d. Download and install the latest Chaos license server from Chaos Downloads.

      e. During installation, click on Advanced and untick the box "Activate during installation".

      f. After installation, open http://localhost:30304 in your web browser and activate the Online licensing with your email.
    3. If the issue persists, check if your license is visible on the license server page (http://localhost:30304). If you don't see your V-Ray for Revit license there, it might indicate an issue with your account or license assignment.

    For more detailed instructions on installation and licensing, you can refer to the following resources:
    1. Installation and Licensing Guide
    2. Chaos License Quick Start Guide

    If none of these steps resolve your issue, I recommend you to open a ticket.

      If the license server is green, then you can check if the License server settings app. Try to find the app through the Windows search bar, type "change license settings" and when you start the app you will see a small window with the server address and connection ports. Make sure the address is 127.0.0.1 and the port is 30304. See attachment;
