  • Can't obtain a license

I'm having an issue with my license server/license. I can't get it to obtain a license no matter what I try. I've tried reinstalling everything (VRay, Phoenix, License server) I tried plugging the dongle into multiple ports, and I've restarted my computer. I've tried to update the license server information and I get a "Could not save settings" error. I don't know what else to try, and I'm at a loss of what else to try.

Do you have a problem with Phoenix license only, or with the V-Ray one too? If it's with both licenses - can you see the license listed when you navigate to http://localhost:30304 on the computer with the dongle?
The "Could not save settings" error usually means lack of permissions - if you start "Change V-Ray client license settings" as administrator (right-click->run as administrator) you should be able to update the settings so that they'll point to the computer with V-Ray license server running.
If that's the same computer you use 3dsMax on - you can use "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" as an IP address.

It was all the ChaosGroup licences, but I found out what it was.. after re-installing all of my software, I didn't realize that I had to install the WIBU (sp?) drivers as well.

        Hi,
my dongle is showing my licenses on http://localhost:30304/#/ , but if I click on them the sheet is empty and in 3dsmax it can't find the licenses...

Can you check if the license settings point to the computer with V-Ray license server running (the one that has the dongle plugged in) - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings
Also - I can see that 1 of your dongles is blacklisted - meaning that it was reported as broken or lost. Using a blacklisted dongle might cause a problem like the one you described.
I'll send you more information through the ticketing since I'd rather not post dongles and account details here.

if i try to use http://localhost:30304/getstatus i get a message saying can't get status .. if i just use http://localhost:30304 i get the management window and both the "online license and the dongle" are green ,

The primary license server information is correctly set to my local machine IP . but the Online Authorization settings are currently blank , ot sure if these need to be filled in tho.. I looked in the manual and it says the username and password is not the log in info so what details to i enter here please ?

If you use license server 4.x http://localhost:30304/getstatus will not work for you, this gets the status of the dongle part of the license server only and it's been moved to port 30314.
Try reinstalling the license server - https://download.chaosgroup.com/?product=48
After that - navigate to http://localhost:30304 and check if you can see the licenses listed.

If the license server is installed locally it's indeed best to use the localhost address (or 127.0.0.1 as a corresponding IP address) and to access the network interface internally.

Regarding the ports - the license server still uses port 30304 to redistribute licenses. However, in versions 4.x the online licensing process is made parent and is running on port 30304. The dongle process is moved to 30314 and is kickstarted by the OLS.
                      That means:

                      - The status of all licenses can be seen on http://localhost:30304
                      - http://localhost:30304/getstatus is not active
                      - http://localhost:30314/getstatus will show only the licenses on a dongle
                      - TCP port 30304 should still be used in the client license settings (not 30314 ) - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings
