DR on second Mac Pro

Hi all

I?m having trouble adding a DR node.

First Machine:Mac Pro
Running Maya 2018.1
V-Ray 3.60.03

Monthly License

All running fine.

Second Machine:Mac Pro
Just Installed
V-Ray 3.60.03 for Maya 2018 ADV
Standalone

Dongle License (Dongle plugged in Mac Pro)
(This License is a separate V-Ray for Maya license)

vray.bin is running on the second Mac.

I?m getting the following error:
// Warning: line 1: V-Ray : Render host BIRQ30RN.local (10.80.1.56:20207) is not responding (on Maya on the first Mac).

I?ve ran vrayslave (on the second Mac/Slave), but get the message that another server is running.

When I double click on vray.bin on the slave the bottom copy says:

I?ve tried the port number 52625 and 20203

All incoming connections to the 2nd Mac Pro are allowed.

Can you check if you can access http://localhost:30304 in your browser on the computer with the dongle? If you can see the license listed - check if your license settings point to the local machine - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ettings-MacOSX
If it does - it's probably not a license issue.
You can check if V-Ray slave is running on the slave computer:

- if you have Maya installed on the slave computer - start /Applications/Autodesk/maya2018/vray/bin/vrayslave
- if you don't have Maya installed - start /Applications/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Maya2018/bin/vrayslave

If you get the following error: "Failed to start network server: Failed to open listening port (4"
appears when you try to start vrayslave while it's already started on the node you want to use for Distributed rendering. Probably V-Ray DR slave has been registered and is already running as service (daemon) on the machine and you cannot start it again manually. You can open Activity monitor (in Applications folder) and see if there is vray.bin running.
In that case - try to render without explicitly starting vrayslave? See if you will receive an error and if it will be the same.

I can't access the http://localhost:30304 in the browser of the computer with the dongle.

Dumb question, but do I need to install Wibukey on this machine?

Yes, that's the dongle drivers and it won't be recognized by the OS if they are not present. You can download the latest version from here - https://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-...uKey_for_Users


Also - make sure you have the license server installed - https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server

The slave needs to be logged in to pick up DR jobs.

Is there a way for the slave Mac to be seen, without logging in - so just power on the Mac and leave at the login screen?

You can register the slave as a Daemon during V-ray installation or from Terminal (quit V-Ray slave if you've started it manually before registering):

sudo /Applications/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Maya2018/bin/registerVRaySlaveDaemon

To start the daemon immidiately - use "/Applications/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Maya2017/bin/registerVRaySlaveDaemon"
Otherwise - the slave will start upon the next reboot.
