  • How to setup a license on a render node - ONLINE LICENSING

    Hi guys,
we have transfered all the licenses to ONLINE mode and i am trying to figure out how to setup a render node instalation so it takes the licenses from the ONLINE server.
Before, i always had to type in the name of the computer where i have the dongle with licenses.
Iam wondergin what to do now when all of them are online - this part is missing in the docs

i have filled in the LOGIN NAME and PASSWORD but do i have to again put in some info for the PRIMARY LICENCE SERVER?

It would not make sense if i had to put in again the name of my workstation computer where i am running the latest license server.

is there any IP name of the ONLINE SERVER that i simply paste in and the node gets connected.

Cos right now it only works if i have my computer workstation name written in and the login info filled....without the computer name its not connecting.

Thanks a lot for a prompt reply!
    Cheers!!!

    Hi Martin,

Whether the licenses are on a USB dongle or Online-obtainable - the licensing principle is the same. The license server gets a license from its carrier and provides it to V-Ray/Phoenix/Pdplayer. You can use the same setup (license settings) as before - meaning that all computers should have their license settings pointing to the machine with V-Ray license server installed - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

It's also possible to install the license server on each computer when using online licensing and point the license settings to "localhost" address, but that's not very effective if you have a lot of computers (more than 5 for example and definitely more than 10) since the network overhead generated will be unreasonably high and the license management - unnecessary difficult.

      Thanks for explanation Ivan!
the reason we have the licence server now on every machine is that i was migrating the dongles to online, but for that i needed to install new LS on each one of them - or at least thats why i understood it
Once we instal Next, i will surely have only one LS running in the office (hopefully)

Anyways, i might have another question for you - i am trying to sort this out with support, but still getting no reply.

When migrating, one of our dongles probably went crap - i had everything with green checkmarks so i hit the migrate button and all of the sudden it told me my dongle is not eligible.
So i looked at the dongle info and it said my dongle expired in 1980

As if this wasnt enough - i see on the online license server that the license is online (as if it migrated) but it did not because the license is still on the dongle and i cant make it run through the new license server.

      The support ticker is 214-099-283

I really need to sort this out asap as we already ordered NEXT (4 licenses) but one license from this "migration day" seems to be flying somewhere in the ether ))

Your help would be highly appreciated! Even if its just pushing the ticker a bit so it gets sorted today ( i sent it yesterday but it was holiday in Bulgaria)

      Cheers

You can migrate all the dongles from one computer - just plug them one by one and initiate the migrations to the desired username.

If you're using Online licensing you can set up a second one for redundancy too, since the licenses are being synced over the Internet

I'll answer through the ticketing system on that one.
