You mean something like --open_with=photoshop.exe? How would you use this feature in practice?

I'm open source in player, see it, say "Ok, now I need some tracking", press shortcut and layer sending to SynthEyes (for example). In demo 2008+1 version I see file-open function in scripting. Etc.

And what about custom\user menu as in Nuke? For new items.
