  • Cascade simulator limitations?

Is it just me, or does cascade simulation not work when you turn on adaptive grid? I"m doing a waterfall, and when I turn on adaptive, my grid doesn't pick up the previous grid, but when I turn off adaptive grid, things seem to work again...

    Hello,

What if you try with a latest nightly build? Does this happen again? You can find how to get a nightly build here - https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...nightly-builds

If it's still happening, can you send us the scene - here or if it's confidential to support@chaosgroup.com with a link to this thread.

    Thank you,

Thanks, I'll give it a try... also, is it on your guys' list to have a cascade setup to simulate successive grids w/o having to push start? I found a script online but it seems to be a little buggy in practice. https://www.joshclos.com/phoenixcascadelink

Hey, yes - we already implemented that in Maya, but we need to port it to 3ds Max - are you working in Max?

Hmmm well I tried a new test scene without installing any updates and adaptive grid and cascade DOES work, so that's good. Maybe phoenix was just freaking out and needed a reboot. Yes I am working in Max. I also use our farm using Deadline to do simming also. would that feature work submitting to a farm?

If you can send over the scene with the issue so we can make sure it won't happen again, it would be much appreciated! I assume you are using a latest Phoenix 3.11?

Cascade would work when submitting to a farm, as long as you have control over the order of running the simulators. E.g if you use the Phoenix deadline submitter, the order in which you picked the simulators in the scene would be their order of simulation: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ine+Simulation

            Cheers!

Like I said, it was working again once I restarted max, but here is the file. I've since changed a lot of things, so don't judge my phoenix settings! I am using Phoenix 3.10.00 and Vray 3.60.04. I downloaded the nightly phoenix build but haven't installed it yet since I overcame this problem.

Ah, I gathered that you made a brand new scene from scratch and it was working in that one, sorry!

If you decide to update Phoenix, beware that 3.11 has a known issue where adaptive grid makes liquid sources emit in pulses, which is fixed in the nightly builds, so you could grab a nightly instead. You can check the nightly changes in the nightly_changelog_[BuildID].zip file in each day's nightly directory,

                Cheers!
