  • Fire preset help

    Hi

I would need your help guys. I am new to PFD. It is a pity I do not have much time to learn about the software as of yet but presets were good enough so far in few cases where I used them. Until now. As you can see from the image flames are quite big as if it was match, not 30 m structure. I have increased the grid (over 9m cells). I am looking for tutorials now but if somebody could point me (what needs to me changed) to get more detail and scale correct flames. As I said the result you see are pure preset with increased grid. Thank you in advance!
    Best Regards

    Hey there,
check the Grid roll-out to make sure the Scene Scale makes sense (the X/Y/Z size should somewhat correspond to the real-world size of your object).
Another thing that helps a lot with fire simulations is making sure that the emission is not completely uniform. Emitting from a texture or a custom-painted vertex color, or using the Noise parameter / Discharge modifiers on the Phoenix Fire Source should help with the issue seen on the image above.

You can check the Burning Chair tutorial on our Tutorials page here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Tutorials
There are plenty of tips there and many videos showing the effect of different parameters on the simulation.

    Hope that helps! Cheers!

Hey, please give this a try:

        PhoenixFD_BurningChair_3dsMax2014.zip

I've re-saved the files with the compatibility option for 2014. Hope that works for you! Cheers!
