  • Making a powder-like look for the simulation

    Hello Everyone,

I know that simulating powder isn't really the scope of Phoenix FD, however what I'm trying to simulate is a very fine powder stream, which (from the physics point of view) should act almost identical to a stream of liquid - my main problem is with the overall looks of the final sim. I turned down the surface tension, etc., but I still can't get anywhere near the effect I'm looking for.

Are there any useful tricks that would let me make the simulation appear more "powdery"?
Maybe something I could do something about the material of the liquid to make it look more like a powder?

I'm using PFD for 3dsmax with Vray.

    Hello,

Can you show us some reference of what you're trying to achieve and the result you're getting?

      Hi Georgi,

I can't seem to find any good graphic example - imagine a conveying tube that is filled with very fine powder that is moving through this tube - that's called a dense phase conveying during which the powder acts very much like the liquid.

I was checking the YT for some tutorials and maybe this lava project will be just about what I'm looking for:

I'd have to remove the splashes a bit and just retain a single color, but it represents quite nicely the 'stream' of what could be dense phase conveyed fine powder - especially with this slightly grainy looks.
I'll try to check it out and post result.

For now I was getting something more like the attached picture (although it comes from an earlier and much simpler attempt - I don't have any current result as the sim is still calculating)

        Hey,

You can check our lava tutorial here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Lava

        Hope this helps.
