Hey there! So, I'm following the thin smoke for Maya tutorial, but ran into a bit of a snag and I'm not sure how to fix it. The adaptive grid for my sim is considerably shorter than it is for the sim in the guide and I'm not sure as to why. This causes the top parts of the smoke sim to get cut off. I've tried increasing the extra margin a bit, but it's still not helping. Does anybody, perchance, have any potential solutions to this? Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

Smoke Sim Still Cutting Off After Increasing the Extra Margin

Hey, is this the tutorial you are following? https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Drag+Particles
It's pretty old and I see there are missing steps... Looks like it could use either the Velocity or the Temperature as conditions of the adaptive grid. Which channel are you using and what is its threshold?

If you are using the defaults, then maybe this is the problem. Extra margin is an auxiliary setting for the adaptive grid, but the most important setting is which channel you choose to adapt based on, and how easily it would adapt - so try setting the adaptive grid channel to speed, and lower the threshold until it starts expanding well.Svetlin Nikolov, Ex Phoenix team lead

Hey, thanks for clearing that up! Alrighty, so after setting the threshold to 900, the grid seems to be expanding properly in the vertical direction now, but it's still being cut off horizontally. Is there any chance you might know how I could go about fixing that, as well? Once again, thank you for your time!

Hey, sounds like you should just keep decreasing the threshold.
The idea behind it is that the simulator first finds out all voxels where the channel value is above the threshold - in your case - where the speed is above 900 vox/sec. And then the simulator checks if during the next frame the fluid in these voxels will reach some of the simulator walls. So the lower the threshold, the more such voxels will be checked. 900 is pretty high threshold, so the grid will expand more, the more you lower it.Svetlin Nikolov, Ex Phoenix team lead

Hey Spark29 , we just updated the tutorial. I've removed the old page - the new link is here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Drag+Particles
Hope that helps!
