  • Render Elements for Splash / Mist / Foam

    Hi there,

I would like to be able to render out my splash and foam particles as their own elements so I can tweak the layers in when I put them back together in a comp. Currently I just render out everything as an exr sequence, bung it in Photoshop and tweak via camera raw - I was just hoping to have a little more control.

I found an older 2014 video which they explained the process but a couple of elements in their process do not exist in FD 4 now. I have found a doc about smoke and fire, but nothing about splash and foam.

    Thank you.

Hey, sorry, missing some info and I can't make up how to help you.

    Can you share:
    1. which video are you watching?
    2. which are the elements that are now missing?
    3. which doc are you looking at?

    Thanks!

      Hey,

I saw this video that has rendering out the mist and it could relate to splashes also as a different layer. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xRhRvZP5H0&t=156s)

I am trying to render out mist and splashes as their own layers so I can tweak their brightness, colour etc in post.

The info I found was a smoke and fire render elements in the phoenix docs online.

        Hey,

Adding the V-Ray Atmosphere Render element will give you the Foam, mist and splashes.Though they will render all together.

If you wish to have each one on a separate layer you will have to render them one by one while disabling the others.

        Cheers,

ok thanks for that, I don't think I need to go to the level of having them all separate if I can just pull them out on their own in one lump. I will head to the vray docs based on your information, thanks for the tip.

Also, when you say adding the render element, that will render a channel in the exr that can then be colour corrected and such in AFX - sorry this is new territory so just trawling around at the moment looking for a vid tutorial.
