  • Juddering/Camera shake

Hi, quite a few of my large scale smoke sims are coming out with a kind of juddering or camera shake look. Is this a setting and can i reduce it? Feels a bit fake, like the the smoke is moving around especially when you put it on a very static plate.

I'm using pheonix for maya on windows.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hey,

Which versions of Phoenix and V-Ray are you using?

Huh, can you share a video or gif of how this looks?

I'm using Maya 2018, pheonix 3.10.00. Just rendering playblasts, haven't set off a vray render yet. . But I've seen this happen quite a bit before, the smoke looks just like you've added camera shake to it.

How do you upload? It doesn't work. I have a very small filesize quicktime

Just add the file to a zip archive and then you can upload it.

I would recommend getting a latest nightly build as Phoenix 3.10 is quite old and we made quite a lot of fixes and improvements since then.

You can find how to get the build here - https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...nightly-builds

Ok. I am in the middle of a project though. Worried about problems with license etc, I have a dongle license will it just update automatically?
The sim is fine for me it's just the shaking

Ah, there should be no need to update the dongle - the license is the same for all Phoenix 3.xx versions.

                      Hey, thanks for reporting this.
This isn't a setting, it was an issue, but as my colleague mentioned it is already taken care of in our newer builds.
Please check out the latest nightly and let us know if it still persists.
                      Regards,
                      Georgi Zlatarev.

Ah, I'm sorry - the issue is fixed in the Phoenix 4 builds, though this should be affecting only the preview. The renders should look good.

Do you think if i run the same sim there are likely to be some improvements?

It really depends on the scene. You can check what changed between versions in the changelog here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...on+Change+Logs
