  • Simple question: Can I deactivate Simulators? (when testing with different setups)

    Hello,

is it possible in 3dsMax to deactivate a simulator?
I have simulated fluids and would like inside the same file do some tests with smoke.
Is that possible or should I create a new document?
Still the fluid is running, even when hidden.

    thanks again

Hide the Simulator? This way it is not going to interact with other simulators in the scene unless you explicitly add it: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...een+Simulators

Ok ! I need to envolve my self into this topic.

I found the way to just only hide the simulations to run one simulation on top of the other.

      BUT

Should be also possible to select simulations and deactivated them like the vRay Layer Texture. Sorry, but I love the new vRay Texture in MaYa
I mean one simulation is already calculated.
The second one is ready to be calculated, but if I have the 1st simulation runs on top of the 2nd the second one will be also afected by the first one. So the solution for me was to hide the 1st simulation.

BUT THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM.

When the 2nd simulation is finished and is already calculated - then you unhide the 1st simulation somehow the 1st simulation has being changed and doesnt looks 100% as you simulated the first time.

Adding the simulation to a Layers inside vRay or Phoenix will be help a lot IMO.
This layering can be discus, but the changes on the 1st simulation is kind of wierd.

If the 1st simulation was already calculated why change the simulation when is hidden ?
Looks like it will be re-calculated again in the background.

      @Svetin,
Sad I saw your link too late.
That will help me a lot in the last 2 days

Hey, yes, I hope the link explains it - by default, simulators are affected by one another, so if you want one way inetraction, you gotta make sure to exclude the 2nd sim from affecting back the first one - either by excluding it from the interaction list, or otherwise by making an include interaction list and adding only the obstacles and sources

          Hi Svetlin,
Yes, I already found the trick

          But there is another issue.

My 1st sim will change a bit and doesnt remain the same as I simulated before.
If I run the 2nd sim my 1st sim will change slightly or even a lot.

Why and where is the change on my 1st sim coming from ?

          EDIT:
I will post a screenshot of the issue tomorrow.

Yup, please show a shot of how it looked before and after. If the 1st sim is not simulated again, it should not change its data - it just reads the cache sequence from the hard disk. Could it be that the preview reduction kicks in or something in the preview or render changes?

              HM !
Now both sims are working perfectly !
I need to find out where was the problem or my problem I created.
