  • foam flickering ( has link to render )

    Hey guys.

Check out the link below. From about 2 seconds in you will see the foam close in to the boat starts flickering a lot. Has anyone seen this before? Know how to fix it?

    Cheers

    Hey,

You gotta try a few things in order to pinpoint why the issue happens in order to figure out how to fix it:
    - Do you have any Splashes simulated in the scene? Maybe it flickers and not the foam. If you make non-renderable the Particle Shader for the Foam and leave only the splashes, does it still flicker?
    - Can you try disabling the Displacement and see if it flickers this way?
    - Do you have any geometry serving as a bottom below the ocean surface? E.g. an infinite VRayPlane or something like that?
    - What if you switch all your Particle Shaders to 'Render as Geometry'?

These will give us some info on what could be causing the flicker.

    Cheers!

Hi Svetlin. Thanks for your reply.....some quick answers:

-- Splashes are simulated but not rendered as I'm rendering in red shift. Red shift needs geometry to render a particle system. I'm using tyflow to generate these. Only doing it for the foam.
-- I'll try disabling displacement and see what happens
-- No geometry under the water
-- particle systems already rendered as geometry as specified above.

Ahhh, Redshift rendering! I assumed V-Ray and all my questions were in that context, but our knowledge base of known issues and ways around them with Redshift is much much smaller - haven't seen such flickering so far. Any luck on the Redshift forums? Also, which Refshift version do you use?

          Hi Sventlin

Yea I realize most of this forums knowledge will be V-ray based. I'm using redshift_v2.6.53 for 3ds max btw. I'm trying disabling displacement at the moment. Hopefully this may help.
