  • Cache: Pause - Rewind - Resume

    Hello

I am doing this nice fluid simulation
while it is running, I softly tune the settings, to experiment and learn
using the pause function is great for that

sometimes I would like to go back, just a bit, change settings and continue from there.

so we are at frame 250
but things started to go wrong at frame 200
so I would like to pause, delete the cached frames between 200 and 250, and resume from 200 with different settings

I havent found a way to do so yet
deleting cached frames manualy + hitting play starts at 250
deleting cached frames manualy + hitting restore + hitting play starts at 0 again

    thnx for support
    Martin

    Hey,

There is an option that could help you in cases where you need to stop the simulation and then start it from where you stopped it, or from a specific frame.

The option is called "Restore" and it's located in the Simulation rollout, under the Load&Start option. In order tо use the Restore you will need the caches to be saved.
If you have a simulation running, then stop it and then press Restore - the sim will restart from the last backup frame. If you need to start from a specific place (like in your case - 200th frame) just place the timeline slider to it and the sim will start from the nearest backup frame.

In addition, if you need more precise control on the backup frames, you could set them from the Output rollout -> Backup Interval. From here you could choose which frames are going to be your backups - for example: by default we have the Backup Interval set to 15, so your backup frames are going to be 15, 30, 45 etc.
It's important to mention that the backup caches are larger, than the others, so be aware that as many backup frames you have, more disk space will be needed.

    Hope this helps!

      Hey,

Here is a How to Video, that you may find useful: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ixFDsimulation.

      Cheers!
