  • Phoenix Water to Ice

    Hey there,
I have been messing around with the lava tutorial to try and find a way to have water freeze as it is flowing and change the shader also.. just like the lava one. I thought it would follow the same sort of principals but it is just too thick looking even though my base is a water flow (very simple) and not the thick lava based flow.

Has anyone tried / succeeded with this before?

Just looking for pointers, not someones whole solution - like the journey to come up with a solution.

    S.

There is a decent tutorial about this on YouTube. He makes a convincing effect.

I think the crucial thing in this setup would be to have the viscosity raised suddenly from 0 to 1 in order to immediately freeze the liquid without having portions of it in a semi frozen thick viscous state. You will be using the particle tuner, right?

That is how the guy with the YouTube video did it. That is how I would do it. Probably ramp it up.

Ah yes, Jesse's tutorial (Wow, has it been 2 years already :O)

He's using a Mapper though - using Phx 3 there was no other way, but now the same can be done using a Tuner and it should be faster and easier, though both ways would get the job done

Oh, I guess it was a Mapper. Sorry, it's been a long time since I watched it, and I assumed it was a Tuner, LOL.
