  • Foam not acting as it was

    Hi.

I just had a crash and loaded the scene.... it crashed.... loaded it again.... it crashed.

I went back to an earlier scene and am trying to set up splash & foam, trying to remember the values I had.

This is what I had yesterday... I improved what you see below... This morning it was looking a lot better.

I did a lot of tweaking last night to get it looking how I want.... I can do this again but I need to fix the foam doing this first

    Any idea what's going on?

    Thanks

Try to zero the B2B option, usually it causes foam bubble to repel from one another. Another possible reason would be the Pattern strength.

Also, did the scene crash immediately when you opened it? If yes, then maybe the crash happened in the middle of cache writing and the cache got half-written - meaning it will crash every time you view it.

Still, the most important thing - if you get a crash, please help us fix it in the first place. Working around it means that you might hit it again and lose more time, and other people will do so as well. A log file and/or a crash dump will be really, really helpful. Here's more info on where to find them: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...o+Report+a+Bug

      Cheers!

Right...... Setting B2B to 0 seems to have fixed it

I know I had that set to 25 before so don't understand why it would be messing up now

        Thanks so much.

        -------------------

I've had an issue when loading saved scenes before and them crashing - but I haven't used Phoenix in them so Phoenix isn't the cause.

Yes.... sorry about that. I did have the autodesk crash box come up but was going through an oh no oh no oh no moment.

It happened when I paused the foam/splash sim (using resim) and IR rendered in Corona..

I've never used the Pause button before so maybe there's a bug there.

I do know that if I have an IR running and I sim the foam/splash - it messes up (but never crashed).

          Another question..

Where is the info for splash/foam stored? Is it written into the liquid (even when using resim)?

Before changing B2B I was thinking I might try deleting the foam/splash - but couldn't find the files

All the particles (and their channel data) are stored in the cache file for a given frame. If you have already ran a sim and you wish to run it again with only the liquid particles you can run a resimulation and disable the Foam/splashes by unchecking the Enable checkbox in the Foam/Splashes rollout of the simulator.
When running a Liquid resimulation, the cache files will be overwritten opposed to the Fire/Smoke sims where the resimulation makes another set of cache files only for the resim.

The other option to strip particles/channels would be to use the cache_converter command line tool to remove the particle system from the caches. You can find more about it here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ache+Converter

As for the Corona IR and the foam/splashes issues you have - I can't reproduce it here. Can you give us exact steps and a sample scene how we can break it?

            Cheers!

Hmmmm. Sorry... those were the exact steps

              Simming splash/foam (using resim)
              Pause
              IR render
              CRASH

I'll do another test later and see if I can reproduce it my end. it may be specific to my scene. Sorry about that
