  • Phoenix Cloud and timing

    Hello Everyone,

    Question:

I have a cloud that interacts with an airplane passing through it. But the interaction only happens briefly like 10 frames near the end of the sequence. The animation sequence is 500 frames.
Is there a way in the retimer, that the cloud is static for the majority of the sequence but only animates for the frames after the interaction? Since the camera comes close to the cloud it has to by high voxels and steps.
Don't want to sim the entire sequence if I don't have to.

Any suggestions? Is this possible? Ideally, frame 0-350 is static, then animates through.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hey,

I would suggest you simulate only the 10 frames and just use frame 0 for the entire timeline before the time comes.

You can do that by simulating first, and then changing the Input rollout's Time Bend settings: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ireSmoke+Input You need to change the mode to Cache Index and animate the Direct Cache Index to 0 at the start of the timeline, 0 where the interaction with the cloud begins, and then linearly increase it (e.g. must be 10, 10 frames later, 20, 20 frames later, etc.)

Btw, the Time Bend Settings do not affect the simulation by default, so the order of simulation and settings the Direct Index does not matter, but this way it will be easier to understand. Also note that while the simulation runs, the Time Bend settings are ignored in the viewport, and they kick in once the simulation starts.

    Cheers!

      Hello Svetlin,

Thank you so much for this, didn't know you could do this. Very powerful feature!

I found the documentation a bit confusing, but your explanation is very clear.

      Thanks again for your help.
