  • Possible to thin out splashes? (delete by percentage in some areas)

    Hello,
when I have a simulation, which is actually good, but I would like to reduce the amount of splashes at the sides in a natural looking way in certain areas: Is there a method?
I read it's possible to kill particles, but can I also say reduce them randomly to 50%?
    Thanks

    Hey,

You can use the Particle Tuner and based on a certain condition you can delete some of the particles. Here you can check how to do that - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...eParticleTuner
There is no exact way to delete 50% of them, but probably you could use a condition based on age, distance to an object or speed or a combination of the three.

Thanks. I have a simulation of water, that runs for hours. Is it possible to use the particle tuner with a cached simulation, just to tweak the final result without having to simulate each time?
I would use maybe a condition to thin out particles based on mesh distance.

You might try adjusting the isosurface level. You might have to use comp tricks or multiple simulators with culling to get the adjustments only in a certain area, though.

Possibly play with mesh smoothing as well. You may be able to get certain areas to look better and combine them somehow as described above.

The Particle Tuner will work only during simulation I'm afraid so no way to use it after that.

What Joelaff suggests is a good idea if your issues are with the liquid mesh and not the actual splash particles. If you want to reduce only the splash particles at render time - you can try reducing the Count multiplier in the Particle shader options.
