  • Resimulation - couldn't find the Path settings

    Hello,
I would like to resimulate only splashes of an fluid.
Strangely I can't find the path settings.

Is it the same, like setting input path to read the source and output path to write the resin?
Although in the documentation there is another panel, which I can't find anymore.

    Attached screenshot and documentation, thanks

In older Phoenix builds when doing a liquid resimulation, the resim would overwrite the original cache files. If this works for you you can just do your resim without changing any paths.

If you get a latest nightly build you will be able to use seprate paths for the base and the resimulated files as in the screenshot from the docs. Here you can find more on how to get a nightly build - https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...nightly-builds

Okay, so this is something new? (I have seen that panel already with smoke)
Would it work to define separate input and output paths ("Simulation Cache" Path to read and "Preview&Render Cache" Path to write with new name) or should I make a copy and work on this?

The path is properly set and velocity was simulated everywhere, but i get this error.
A "resimulation Input path" is not visible. Does it mean, I must install the nightly?

Yes, this is a new functionality of the liquid simulator that was already there for the fire/smoke sims.

The base cache path needs to point to your original caches - if you leave it to the default value it will take the path that is set in your output rollout.
The output and render path is pointing to where the new resimulation caches will be saved.

If the base cache path and the output and render path are pointing to different locations you will have two set of cache files, the base ones and the resimulated ones.
If both paths are pointing to the same location the resimulation will overwrite the base cache files.

            Fine, it's working.
            - Last not least, "Can't Affect Liquid" means, that if I increase the splashes, it would normally be less liquid remaining, but not in resimulation?

            - There is no cloud service just for PHX simulation at chaoscloud, right?
Because this is also quite time-consuming.

            Thanks

Yes, the splashes won't be able to consume the liquid particles when the Affect liquid option is ignored and turn back to liquid when in resimulation mode.

And yes, the Chaos Cloud doesn't support running Phoenix sims in the cloud, it can only render them.

Hm, Resimulation takes longer than the original simulation
I thought I could save this way time.

It depends on which part of the simulation takes longer time for your specific setup. Resimulation does not simulate the liquid and reuses it from the caches, but if the rest of the resimulated particle systems (foam, splash) are very heavy, there won't be much point in resimulating. Also, if your caches are being read and written to a slow disk drive, this could also make resimulation slower than the original simulation. Check the notes at the top of the Resimulation page: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...d+Resimulation

As for the warnings above, also check the FLIP particle lifecycle here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...les+Life+Cycle Since the liquid particles are read from the cache files, there is no way for the Affect Liquid option to consume liquid on splash birth or to create new liquid when splashes merge back with the liquid.

                  Hope this makes sense, cheers
