  • lighting gas from the inside

How do I light a gas from the inside? I get a black sphere if I use a V-Ray light set to invisible. I may be imagining things, but I swear I managed to do it a couple of months ago.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

    Hey,

If your smoke is really thin and if you're using a V-Ray Sphere light this is expected as the sphere light is not double sided and emits light only from its surface. We have it in the to do list to improve it.

Meanwhile you could try using a V-Ray Rect light and turn its double-sided option.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
If sphere lights gets improved, it'd be great if it was included in a Next 3.3 build.

Has this been improved in the latest Phoenix builds?

          Hey,

This more related to V-Ray, rather than Phoenix, but how about if you use a sphere geometry as a mesh light, make it invisible and you turn on the double-sided option?

            Thanks.
That works but I have to really increase the subdivs in the Sampling section to get a smooth result, and the render time is too long.

I'm afraid this is the way for now. Bumped up the issue logged in our system and when there is some progress, my colleagues should reply in the thread. Can't say how soon this will be though.

                Got it.
                Thanks. I appreciate the help.
