    Hi

Can you help me pin down the cause of the flickering in the below video? There are 4 Omni lights in the scene using VRayShadow. No GI, local render. I've tried increasing the shadow subdivs to 512, and also lowering the Step % and Shadow Step % the Phoenix rendering settings. What else could I try?

I think you'll have to enlarge the video and set the quality to 720 to see the flickering.

    Thanks.

Hey, can you check what happens if you either reduce the Volume Light Cache Speedup in the Phoenix Simulator -> Rendering rollout -> Volume options -> Smoke Color rollout? If lowering it down even to zero still does not help, try turning off Volume Light Cache completely. This could slow down the rendering a lot, but in order to compensate, you can go to the Atmosphere settings (the 8 dialog) of Phoenix an turn on Probabilistic Volumetrics. Thank you!..
Turning off the Volume Light Cache and enabling Probabilistic Volumetrics is working and the render time isn't too bad. Now to try and understand this functionality ....

The Volume Light Cache is the old way of speeding up the render, dating back 10 years, and it's been going out for some time now. The Probabilistic Volumetrics is the modern way of rendering volumes, so shortly it would become the default...
