  • How to recreate Mist shader?

    Hello,
opening an old test scene, I can't find any phoenix shaders.
When I toggle Splashes and Foam, it asks, if I would like to create a shader an I get it.
But it doesn't create a Mist shader anymore.

Is there a way to get that, without setting up a new grid?

    Thank you

    Hey,

Phoenix never created a Particle Shader for the Mist when you toggle simulation of Foam and Splash. This is up to the artist because Mist particles can be shaded with many different modes - fog, points, or even as splashes, and they could slow down rendering, so a human should set this up.

    Cheers!

I just want to make sure we are on the same page because you said "without setting up a new grid": The Phoenix Particle Shader can pick any Phoenix particle system - Foam, Splash, Mist, Drag, Liquid, from any Simulator, and also can pick particle flow, thinkingParticles, tyFlow and basically any particle system in existence. You never need to setup a new grid if you don't have a particle shader or it got disconnected for some reason - you can just pick the particle system back into the shader.

Okay, so it’s like any other object, which can get a shader assigned? Is there a page in documentation to learn how this works? I was reading about the shaders (https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...er+%7C+PHXFoam), but couldn't see any page, that explains the workflow of shader assignment or creation. Cheers!
Edit: I see, it's a Particle Shader, which is an "object" and not a material. And I assign there the system in the property panel. So the only question is, why are Foam and Splashes instantly created (with asking for a shader) but not Mist? I haven't found out yet, to which object to assign the Mist shader. In other scenes, there are "Particles [Mist]..", but not in my current scene anymore. So I would need to get the the Mist particles created, they are enabled, but the simulator doesn't create them.

Hey, just pick the simulator. Phoenix will ask you which particle system you want to choose. Here is more info on the particle system nodes https://docs.chaos.com/pages/viewpag...xitMobile=true
Please check my other post for why mist shaders are not created by default.

Okay, I pick the simulator as a target for the Particle Shader, and it will ask for the particle system.
But when there are no more Mist particles in the scene explorer, doesn't it mean, that they don't exist anymore? Thanks

If you pick the Simulator in the Particle shader and it doesn't allow you to pick the Mist particles, then probably you have no mist in your scene. You can check what types of particles your cache has in the Cache File Content window in the Simulation rollout of your simulator.

In order to spawn mist particles you need to have Splashes enabled and the Splash to Mist option in the Splashes rollout to be set above 0 - you can find more about it here - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...Mist-MistBirth
