  • 3dsMAX ocean noise

    *Translated from Japanese. Sorry.

How can I get rid of horizon noise?
I am using vray to render but the waves in the distance are noisy.
I have Ocean Subdivs set to 5 and smoothness to 4, but there is a flicker and it is noticeable.
Is there any other way to resolve this other than these items?

    Hey,

Can you show us how it looks in animation? Generally the solution would be to increase the ocean subdivs.

Having a similar issue but with Phoenix/Vray in Maya:

This was created from the OceanSim preset.

      -Noise in the background

-How to blend the "wake" coming from the back of the ship better?

-The white dots which (I'm assuming are coming from the Splashes/Mist) are too big. How to reduce?

Looks like adjusting the Diffuse/Size multipliers seems to blend it in better.

          Hey,

For the flickering at the horizon - increasing the ocean subdivs should help, just make sure to increase the value gradually as you might run out of RAM if you bump it too high.

Looks like your foam rising speed is too high and some bubbles are shooting up in the air, reducing the rising speed should help with that.

If indeed the splashes are too big you can either reduce their size via the Particle shader at render time or increase the grid resolution and simulate again.

Thanks Georgi. I will look into those settings.
