  • annual use case question

as usual, i have a potential need for phoenix... i want to know if its a reasonable use case.

i wish to do a moody night forest scene with spooky mist...

i appreciate this can be achieved to a certain level with vrayenvfog and procedural textures...

however i wish a more natural wispy look than ive achieved using procedurals, and i also wish to have the mist be disturbed/moved by a large vehicle which passes through... this will have powerful lights on it which will hightlight the mist..

    any thoughts/examples?

    thanks!

I'd say emit the mist within a large box or in fact any volume in Volume Brush mode - you could even map it with a gradient texture so it's thinner on top. The vehicle passing through will stir it up and illuminate it automatically. You could also add a Turbulence node with very weak discharge that will make the top of the mist more interesting. Also, you could emit some cold temperature (something below 300, like 290 or 270, have to try it) to make the mist fall down over time. Also, you could emit the smoke in just one frame and then let it play around and do its thing, or if the turbulence or the passing vehicle affect it too much, you could keep emitting throughout the animation with a low Brush Effect (%) value in the Source.

    Hope this helps

that sounds very promising.. i think ill have to rent phoenix to give it a go. ive had the unlimited trial a couple of times in the past.. probably burnt all my "free goes"

Haha, naughty, but actually try starting a trial just in case - if I remember correctly, trials are reset at major versions, though it is already a long while since Phoenix 4.0...
