  • Compositing fire.

I read a previous post re. Fire and alpha.. Changing multipliers etc. However I've just done a 5 hr render including both fire and smoke.. I'd rather not do again. Plus the look I have I dont want to mess with. I know vray has the Information somewhere to composite the fire correctly - it looks perfect over a background image loaded into the vfb.. However, saved out as png and loaded over my comp in photoshop it looks dreadful.

Is there a trick in the vfb to get whatever mask it used to overlay on background image out so I can use in in Ps..?

Last resort would be loading my comp as a bg image then saving a version with the fire, and painting it over the psd, but the retoucher would have a fit if I give him that.

    Thanks, Robin

    Hi super gnu,

I am not 100% understand what you're after. If you can post some screenshots or images that would be great! Here are some information that might help:
    1. Separate fire and smoke through help of Atmosphere and Self-Illumination Render Elements:
    https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...Fire+and+Smoke

    2. Phoenix provide with different opacity modes, from the smoke or Use Own Opacity. The later one allow you to separate fire from the smoke, but less physically correct.
    https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4MAX/Render+Fire

    3. Related post:
    https://forums.chaos.com/forum/phoen...ire-with-alpha
by default the fire rendering mode is "fully opaque" (the name is a bit misleading, perhaps we have to reconsider it) , change it to some other, "use smoke opacity" or "use own opacity"
the first one is the physically correct mode, but is harder to manage, because it locks the smoke and the fire alpha.
    Best,
